Analysis - BROKE - Skip

Skip Broke - is mentioned as  a suspicious 'Pool Accident Death' in Brandi's description. Has no description of his own.

Personality:
Aries
Neat: 5
Active: 6
Outgoing: 8
Nice: 3
Playful: 3
Average neat, above average active, extrovert, below average nice, below average playful.

Skip is mildly serious, slightly mean, extrovert who likes a clean home and an averagely active lifestyle. As a Romance sim, this means that he is more the brooding type than the light and flirty type.

Interests and Hobbies:
Hobby: Cooking.
Preferred Interests: Politics, Sports, Travel, Work.
No Interest in: Culture, Paranormal, Crime.
No Skills.

Relationships:

He has family relationships with Brandi (20/10), Dustin (20/20) and Beau (20/20).
Flat Broke (20/20), Flo Broke (20/20)

He has other relationships with
 Gunther Goth (43/19)
 Frida Goth (41/19)
 Prudence Crumplebottom (39/8)
 Cornelia Goth (37/0)
 Simon Crumplebottom (34/10)
 Jeff Pleasant (34/6)
 Victor Goth (32/7)
 Gretle Goth (29/9)
 Diane Pleasant (21/9)
 Agnes Crumplebottom (13/5)

Other Information:

  • Both parents involved in toddler upbringing.
  • Brandi is Skip's Childhood sweetheart.
  • Involved in Dustin's toddler Upbringing.
  • Was alive when Beau was born - but not according to Brandi, Dustin or Beau although Beau has a relationship with his father.
  • Photo Album has a picture of Skip being present at Beau's birth with Dustin attending in the kitchen.
  • Skip never got a job - house husband? or given that work was very interesting to him - self-employed or job seeker with no skills.
  • Cooking is his hobby but he has no cooking skills.
  • There are 2 skips. Both dead. One is Romance and has a family, One is Popularity and has no contacts at all.
  • Note: 20/20 is the default relationship setting, where sims have met and gotten to know each other but not yet friends. Anything different from 20/20 is taken to be significant.
  • All Dead people have no skills. So can't assume that no Skills dead, means no skills alive.
There are a number of questions around Skip's Life and Death.

1. Who killed Skip? Who has his urn.

2. When did Skip die? Different memories suggest different timelines. Could Skip have faked his first death? How did he manage to get Brandi pregnant with the 3rd child after he was 'dead'?

3. How did Skip die? A ladderless pool accident is mentioned - however no urn on the lot where the pool is suggests that is not how he died. Beau is scared of Fire - why? When no-one he knows has died or injured in fire.

4. Where did Skip die? If he didn't die in the pool - where did he die?

5. Why did Skip die? Brandi didn't kill him - she doesn't have his urn, and although their relationship was cool - it wasn't deadly. They were acquaintances. The only person in the game who has a staunch enemy is Daniel Pleasant, and that is Dustin Broke. Did Daniel kill Skip?

6. Skip was a Romance sim with no successful romances. Did he have a thing for older women and men? (see friendships with the Goths, Crumplebottoms and Pleasants).

7. Given that Skip had no job, but an abiding interest in work and politics (travel and sport) - could his relationship with the Goths and Crumplebottoms been for a motive other than romantic?

8. Skip has a doppleganger - could Skip's doppleganger played a part in Skip's life for better or worse?

Dopple Ganger Skip has same personality as Skip, aspiration of Popularity, but definitely different interests:
Interested in : Crime, Environment, Food, Travel, Weather
Not Interested in: Culture,  Health, Paranormal, Sci-Fi

9. Skip is active in Dustin's life but has an average relationship with his son.

10. Skip has an interest in Cooking. Brandi has no interest in Food, but 8 in cooking skills. Brandi cooked at home, and Skip took an interest in her cooking. Slightly mean, and slightly serious, suggests that he would be critical when it was bad, and would only praise if it was 'good enough'. And would be requesting that it always be good enough.

11. Skip takes an interest in Work, but has no job. Brandi was promoted twice in her job. This could have been because of Skip's interest in her work - i.e. a supportive husband. Or in spite of Skip's jealousy that she was in work, and he wasn't. Given that their relationship had cooled off - it would suggest that the second is the case.

12. Interest in Sport, plus active nature - would suggest some hands-on involvement in sport or the watching of sport. Perhaps a swimmer given the link with the pool accident.

  1. I have 2 theories about/based on the above information:

    1. Skip suffered from multiple personality disorder.
Brandi may or may not have known about his illness. If she didn't know, perhaps Skip's not telling her made him feel very alone and put suicidal thoughts in his head as the number of children he'd have to tend to and hide this from mounted.
If Brandi was aware of it or became aware of it, she could have staged the accident to liberate him from his duties as a father. The last pregnancy could have been a goodbye & thank you to Brandi that went a bit awry. If the accident wasn't real and he was only timeline dead, there'd be no urn and Skip could be living somewhere else, perhaps getting help with his illness.

    2. Skip's doppelganger represents a twin Skip hid from Brandi.
Skip and his twin could have been partners in a business, not a very lucrative one, that was less than legitimate.
If Skip's doppelganger was a twin, his aspiration would suggest the more dominant twin was him. The twin theory is still less likely because no set of twins has an identical set of personalities.
In the twin theory, the doppelganger twin becomes jealous of the family Skip has been building with Brandi and gives them a small gift: a pool. Later that night he comes by the house to speak to Skip and they fight, falling into the pool. Skip's doppelganger kills him, taking Skip's urn into his inventory, and then dies himself. The doppelganger twin dying doesn't explain the continuity error in Brandi's memories about her final pregnancy.
Or, instead of dying, the twin tries to take over Skip's identity and fools Brandi long enough to get her pregnant, but then she finds out and the twin flees leaving Brandi with her suspicions.

  2. Hi Devin - I really like those theories.

MPD doesn't usually end up with two bodies - although Skip and Skip-Doppleganger could be the exception that proves the rule. The only thing is that MPD alters don't have the same personalities - in fact they've been created to be very different personalities keeping traumatic memories separate - like defusing a bomb. So I won't be using that theory myself - because then it's got to be looking for a traumatic and abusive childhood.

Theory 2 seems more likely, the only thing is that Skip and Skip Dopple-ganger don't know each other either. So it gets more sinister - and reminds me a bit of The Twilight Zone - there's an episode there I can't think of the name about a doppleganger twin who forcefully takes over the life of a guy who gets tired of his own life - and there's a fight to the death. The other thing too is that Beau is afraid of fire - could DG-Skip have died in a fire after killing Skip in the pool?

To be honest, I don't think Skip's story can be told without a hint of the supernatural in it.

I haven't done a lot of speculating in the above analysis - but your second theory is very similiar to what I am thinking about. DG-Skip (Doppleganger Skip) is a popularity sim. Skip is a romance sim - who has lots of acquaintances, and no dalliances. So Skip is acting more like a popularity sim - i.e. DG-Skip, than he is acting like Skip. So yeah - I do think that DG-Skip has something to do with Skip's death and the timeline anomaly.

I haven't found the urn in the data, but if I do - I think that will also point to the killer.

  3. The MPD theory was a half baked one at best. You have very solid points in that it doesn't manifest outside of a single person and the alters don't feature the same personality.

Definitely DG-Skip has something to do with Skip's death and Brandi's last pregnancy. All the facts fit in pretty well. I wonder if the urn will turn up or if it would be lost forever if it were in the inventory of a Sim who died. I forget how the game handles inventory stuff upon death- I haven't played in a while.

  4. These are so interesting to read, even though I never played any of these characters in my own game! I love your analysis on them all.

The doppelganger and pregnancy timeline thing is fascinating! I wonder if this is a mystery that anyone could ever solve, based on what's presented in the game. Has any player ever found Skip's urn, in the ten or so years the game has been out?

  5. I'm wondering where your Skip's cuisine hobby came from. Maybe I misunderstood something in your post, because base game sims don't have OTHs, and Skip's 5/6/8/3/3 personality would return a Sports OTH.

    I'm really enjoying your analyses!

  6. Hi Halcionne,

Thanks for that. Yeah - Base game sims don't have OTH, but they are assigned a OTH once the hood has been entered.

I got the OTH of Cooking for him from SimPE - Neighbourhood Browser, SDSC. To be honest, I'm surprised he had cooking too - but that's what it said in Simpe.
